A major accident happened “by mistake”… An incident causing anxiety occurred for the first time in 12 years 

지난 3월 강원도의 한 대학 병원에서 두 명의 환자가 수혈을 받았습니다.
Last March, two patients received blood transfusions at a university hospital in Gangwon Province.

그런데 A형 환자에게 O형 혈액이, O형 환자에게는 A형 혈액이 들어간 사실이 나중에/나흘 뒤 드러났습니다.
However, it was later discovered that type O blood had been given to the type A patient, and type A blood had been given to the type O patient.

다행히 혈액형과 무관하게 수혈이 가능한 혈소판 수혈이어서 환자들 몸에 문제가 생기진 않았습니다.
Fortunately, it was a platelet transfusion, which can be given regardless of blood type, so the patients did not suffer any health problems.

하지만 적혈구 수혈이었다면 몸에서 혈액이 응고돼 사망에 이를 뻔한 대형 사고였습니다.
But if it had been a red blood cell transfusion, it could have caused blood clotting in the body and led to death, making it a major accident.

문제는 헌혈의 집에서부터 시작됐습니다.
The problem began at the blood donation center.

O형 피가 담긴 혈액팩에 O형 스티커와 A형 바코드를 붙이고, A형 피가 담긴 팩에 A형 스티커와 O형 바코드를 붙인 겁니다.
They attached an O-type sticker and an A-type barcode to a blood pack containing type O blood, and attached an A-type sticker and an O-type barcode to a pack containing type A blood.

혈액팩을 전달받은 혈액원은 혈액과 바코드가 일치하는지 검수했습니다.
The blood center that received the blood packs checked whether the blood type and barcode matched.

불일치를 알리는 빨간 불이 뜨자 담당자는 잘못 붙여진 바코드가 아니라 제대로 붙여져 있던 혈액형 스티커를 교체했습니다.
When a red warning light indicating a mismatch appeared, the staff member replaced the correctly attached blood-type sticker instead of the incorrectly attached barcode.

결국 혈액형 스티커와 바코드가 모두 잘못 붙여진 혈액팩 두 개가 그대로 병원으로 전달된 겁니다.
As a result, the two blood packs with both the blood-type stickers and barcodes incorrectly attached were delivered to the hospital as they were.

이처럼 혈액 출고 과정에서 벌어진 뒤바뀜 사고는 지난 2014년 이후 12년 만입니다.
An accident involving switched blood products during the blood shipment process has occurred for the first time in 12 years since 2014.

보건복지부는 즉각 대한적십자사에 엄중 경고 조치를 내렸습니다.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare immediately issued a serious warning to the Korean Red Cross.

사태를 파악한 적십자사는 환자들에게 혈액 뒤바뀜 사고 사실을 알리고 담당자들에 대한 감찰에 들어갔습니다.
After understanding the situation, the Red Cross informed the patients about the blood mix-up accident and launched an inspection of the staff involved.

또 혈액형 스티커와 바코드를 하나로 합치는 등 재발 방지 대책을 마련하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
They also announced that they would prepare measures to prevent recurrence, such as combining the blood-type sticker and barcode into one.
